Siskel & Ebert - “Full Metal Jacket”
Просмотров 653 тыс.7 лет назад
They disagreed on on Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket”. Gene thinks it’s brilliant, and Roger thought it had flashes of brilliance but was on overall disappointment.
Siskel & Ebert - “Brazil”
Просмотров 47 тыс.9 лет назад
Both voted thumbs down on “Brazil”, the confusing, overdone futuristic satire.
Siskel & Ebert “Crimes and Misdemeanors”
Просмотров 18 тыс.9 лет назад
2 thumbs up for Woody Allen’s shockingly good “Crimes and Misdemeanors”, a comic drama made for and about the ’80s.
Siskel & Ebert - “Ran”
Просмотров 72 тыс.9 лет назад
They’re in agreement that Akira Kurosawa’s “Ran” is one of the great films of 1985, or any year.
Siskel & Ebert - “M” & “Le Samouraï”
Просмотров 32 тыс.9 лет назад
2 thumbs up, of course, for 2 great classics now in revival around the country- “M” with Peter Lorre and “Le Samouraï” with Alain Delon.
Siskel & Ebert - "Interiors"
Просмотров 28 тыс.11 лет назад
They both admired Woody Allen's intense psychological drama, "Interiors". Gene had reservations about the 1st half of the picture, but Roger thought it was 1 of the best films of the year.
RIP Roger Ebert

Roger was a great advocate for the art of film, and a great champion of the underdog. He'll be sorely missed.
Siskel & Ebert "My Dinner with Andre"
Просмотров 110 тыс.11 лет назад
2 raves for "My Dinner with Andre", Louis Malle's great film of a fascinating dinner conversation between 2 wildly different old friends.
Siskel & Ebert - "Three Colors: White"
Просмотров 18 тыс.11 лет назад
A split vote on "White", the 2nd part of Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Red", "White" and "Blue" trilogy. Gene didn't find it a self-sufficient story, but Roger disagreed and thinks the movie does stand on its own.
Siskel & Ebert - "Rocky"
Просмотров 111 тыс.11 лет назад
They both like "Rocky", but Gene isn't as enthusiastic as Roger was, saying he didn't think the characters of Adrian and Paulie were believable enough. Ironically, while reviewing the sequels, he claimed the success of the 1st film was because of the love story between Rocky and Adrian.
Siskel & Ebert - "The Secret of Roan Inish"
Просмотров 30 тыс.11 лет назад
2 thumbs up for "The Secret of Roan Inish", the lovely Irish fable from John Sayles.
Siskel & Ebert - "The Terminator"
Просмотров 531 тыс.11 лет назад
They split on "The Terminator", with Roger enjoying its action more than Gene did.
Siskel & Ebert - "L.A. Confidential"
Просмотров 139 тыс.11 лет назад
2 big thumbs up for the confident, sprawling, very entertaining "L.A. Confidential", which weaves a labyrinth of police corruption and has great work by Kevin Spacey and Kim Basinger, and starmaking performances by Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce.

Siskel & Ebert - "Broadway Danny Rose"
That dude's trippin
Ebert proving once again how much superior he is as a film critic than siskel. Evert tkaes the movie for what it is and gives credit and clear reasons why and siskel can’t even understand the plot or give any credit to a very well acted and directed film. For me I think it gets a little overhyped by the rabid terminator fans but it’s still a very well made and original film.
I saw this in the theater. Such a horrible film.
i couldn't disagree more with ebert 🤦♂️ may he rest in peace 🙏
It is the type of movie critic like Gene that we gave a love story of the Transformers movies 😂
Not as good as "Saving Private Ryan" as a WWII film - the characters weren't developed as well, and I wondered who was talking during some of the scenes. Sometimes the actions and conduct seemed more like Viet Nam than WWII, and some sub-plots sort of fizzled out, but I'd have to read the book to see how closely the movie held to it.
I remember watching this masterpiece in a theatre and was just blown away by this man’s greatness
I saw "This Is Spinal Tap" in the theatre. On the way out, two guys were walking in front of me, and one of them said to his girlfriend, "They could have at least picked a better band to make a movie about." The guy in front of him turned and just looked at him in disbelief. I don't know what they were thinking. I suppose I never will.
Siskel & Ebert won't be back.
That scene they showed of Travis in the cab talking to candidate Palantine is one of my favorites in the movie. “Damn straight.”
It’s amazing to me that in this country, a no talent hack can criticize truly talented people and their work and get paid for it. Only in America! LoL
Every real band saw themselves in this great film.
This is like Classic Krusty.
It’s insane to me that their show goes this far back. I always thought they started their show in the late ‘90s. Their show basically covers the entirety of what we think of as “modern Hollywood cinema”, not counting the beginnings of blockbusters in the late ‘70s.
Regarding the romance of the film, I don't think it was as prominent as they made it out to be until the hotel scence, in which it was late in the film. But Michael Biehn and Linda Hamiliton did have good chemistry (no pun intended) throughout. Regarding Gene's opinion, each to his/her own. But I do think the second film was a vast improvement over the first, which made the latter more depressing in comparison.
“See that lady up there in the window!? See her?!”
Never liked movie Critics, especially today.. best movie critics are the people..
The Thin Red Line is so underknown today. It's the best WWII movie ever made
One of my favorites, loaded with great performances including James Cromwell: “have you a valediction boy-o?”
I always appreciated Gene Siskel's takes more than Roger Ebert's. Looking back now, I was right. How could Roger put it at the same level as Platoon? The Thin Red Line is the greatest movie I've seen. I used to watch it regularly once it was on ....VHS. Yes, VHS.
I actually agree with Ebert for the most part. It’s good but not great. I think the first half is amazing. I think the whole movie could have been that. But once it get’s to Vietnam I kinda lose interest. And not because it’s badly made but Apocalypse Now and Platoon had already come out. I think it was Alexander Walker who said he didn’t understand why Kubrick made it. I kinda don’t either.
R. Lee Ermy made the movie seem like 2 movies
Gene was seeing clearly near the end.
These two are thoughtless idiots
It took 2:00 minutes for them to finally start the review. You're welcome
Well why don't you just make the amps go to 10 and make that louder, because these go to 11.
I like this film better than Chinatown. I think it is a near classic.
I'm a Vietnamese prostitute and no movie captures my time fucking marines so accurately as this movie
One of em disliked The Teminators? All their reviews can be distrusted after thAt. Let's see which one fails. I hop it's Ebert.
70s Disco Gene had to look away from the minor violence in Taxi's Driver. Oh God Gene.
I watched them when they where on PBS channel 11 in Chicago then on this version that went nationally I met Roger ebert at a Barnes & noble in Chicago got his book autographed sadly their missed great movie reviewers how they are truly missed 😅
If I remember correctly,"Give me some money" was used in a commercial for a credit card(Capitol one?). The ultimate in Mid American acceptance of an imaginary band.
Siskel liked Boxing Helena. Enough said.
Should have won the Oscar for best picture that year, but Titanic overshadowed everything.
A Trumper who said they were a former marine, looked a lot like Gomer Pile and after he went after me I unloaded on him like Gomer’s drill sergeant 😂 … he didn’t get the references at all.
I love this movie
Oh Roger, made of steel? It's a hyper alloy combat chassis..smh
I kind of agree with Ebert. Full Metal Jacket was only really good for its boot camp section. The rest of it was just a generic war movie.
Did they only see the Sid Sheinberg cut or whatever it was called?
It was such a sad thing to watch Gene push himself to do the show week after week despite his brain tumor. He died less than a year following this show. I remember noticing back then, before we knew how sick he was, that he was having trouble enunciating words. You really have to give him credit for soldiering on.
Siskel was half right with FMJ but so was Ebert. The boot camp sequence is the only reason FMJ is a classic.
The Mighty Wind For your consideration Best in Show Are all great mockumentaries too.
I didnt enjoy this movie much, with the exception of the setting, there wasnt much story there and absolutely no character arc for anybody…I dont get this movie.
Siskel..was half asleep watching it. He thought he was watching Alien.
What? The "love story" ? Really Gene?
Much hindsight here but today Platoon is a Movie of the Week compared to FMJ, which is still fresh. Nevertheless, even when he’s wrong, Roger is still great.
This guys have no idea what they are talking about and we thought they are genius back in the 90's
Sgt. Hartman is such a force of personality that for the first half of the movie that everything else seems anticlimactic and average afterwards. But the first half is so great that it makes this into a veritable classic of cinema.
That explains why Quantum Leap Creator & Producer Donald P. Bellisario didn't like Oliver Stone's JFK and why he wrote the episode of Lee Harvey Oswald and James Whitmore, Jr. Directed It
I miss them guys
